Canning Season is Here - Home Food Preservation Classes Coming Soon!

Spring is here and beautiful days are ahead. It's time to preserve some of your fresh grown produce to enjoy in the fall and winter season. Are you new to canning or an experienced canner? Whatever your situation, you are invited to join N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center's Home Food Preservation Series (HFP) to be held in-person and online starting in April and running through September 2022. We will cover water bath and pressure canning, jams & jellies, pickling, freezing, drying, and much more.

The online workshops will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and presented by various Family and Consumer Sciences Agents in the North Central District area of North Carolina. Register for the online series.

Schedule for online workshops are as follows:

April 14th: Introduction to Canning
April 28th: Water Bath Canning
May 12th: Pressure Canning
May 26th: Freezing
June 9th: Sweet Spreads
June 23rd: Fermentation


The in-person workshops will be on Fridays except for the first session and the sessions will be from 10 AM to 12 noon. Space is limited to 15 people. Registration is required for each session being offered. Again, you can pick and choose the sessions you would like to attend. In-person sessions will open up for registration 3 weeks before the scheduled workshop.

June 24, 2022- Dehydration
July 8, 2022 - Pickling
July 22, 2022 - Freezing

Sept. 9, 2022 - Canning Meat
