Four Forsyth County 4-H’ers got to attend a Poultry Workshop put on by students and faculty at Wilkes Community College. This workshop was so much fun! Participants got to tour the on-campus broiler house, hold and examine newly hatched chicks, and learn how to determine the exterior quality of eggs according to USDA standards. Additionally, they broke out eggs to determine hatchability, dissected a chicken and learned how to identify its parts, and candled eggs to determine the grade according to USDA standards. This all-day annual event was hosted by the Wilkes Community College Animal Science Club and was sponsored through a US Poultry Foundation Grant.
