2014 Race for Victor at Tanglewood Park

Head to Tanglewood Park on Saturday, April 12, 2014 for the fourth annual Race for Victor 5K walk and run benefitting the Pitt Hopkins Syndrome Fund!

Join the cause at Tanglewood Park to support research into Pitt Hopkins Syndrome (PTHS). Victor Pauca, a Winston-Salem native, was diagnosed with PTHS in 2008. This event is open to walkers and runners.

Pitt Hopkins Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder affecting a specific gene in chromosome 18, called TCF4. TCF4 plays an essential role in the development of the nervous system and the brain and any functional deficiency of TCF4 greatly affects how a child develops over time.

In the recent past, the accessible medical literature indicated that all children affected by PTHS would suffer from severe disabilities, unable to walk, speak or relate to others.

The collective knowledge obtained through Race for Victor’s 200+ international support group and recent research efforts are showing that PTHS children are creative, vibrant and joyful people continuing to learn over time, and who seem to bring happiness to everyone who knows them.

If you are not able to participate on Saturday, April 12, 2014, you can still sponsor Victor's Walk. As in years past, Victor will be walking in honor of all children with PTHS.
