The Clover Classic 4-H Livestock Show was held March 16 and 17 at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, NC. The show was open to youth ages 5-18 that reside anywhere which resulted in 104 exhibitors from 28 counties in three states. Coffman and Simon Liggett drove almost 240 miles from to show sheep on Sunday. Connor Durham and Wyatt and Shane Kendall drove 189 miles to show cattle on Saturday. All three sets of families received $50 cash to help with their fuel. There were 126 head of cattle exhibited along with 16 market lambs, 38 breeding ewes, and 38 breeding does.
A cattle skill-a-thon contest was held on Saturday. The junior winner was Connor Durham of Anderson, SC. Connor received $25 in cash and a leather padfolio. Wyatt Kendall of Sampson County received $10 cash for placing second in the contest. The senior contest winners were 1st place Brandon Hartman of Stokes County and 2nd place Noah Henson of Haywood County. A sheep and goat skill-a-thon was held on Sunday and the winners were, Juniors: Wyatt Kendall and Madison Sifford of Alamance County and Seniors: Lauren Ingram of Guilford County 1st and Brooke Proffitt of Catawba County 2nd.
The Supreme Champion Heifer went to Marcy Price of Johnston County with her Commercial heifer, Lanie. Marcy also had the Reserve Champion Commercial Heifer with Ariette. The Reserve Champion Heifer went to Connor Durham with his Gelbvieh Heifer, LRSF RyLee. Connor also had the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Heifer with HSCF Carolina Girl. In the Hereford show Grand Champion heifer went to Courtney Eudy of Cabarrus County with AB 6008 Banner Hunter. Reserve went to her sister Alexis Eudy with ADE 743 Emmy Tyme 190Y. The Grand Champion Angus heifer went to Elizabeth Cole of Patrick County, Va with Kah Fullback Kt. Mary Wood of Johnston County exhibited the Reserve Champion heifer Wood Erica. In the Red Angus show, Morgan Rockwell, Hoke County, brought home the Grand Champion honor with Majestic Peak a Boo Z02. Reserve Champion went to Chloe Lawson LM Aubrey. Chloe is from Stokes County. Mason Blinson of Harnett County took home the Grand Champion Shorthorn honors with DS Roan Babe 1201 and Shane Kendall had Reserve with Honeybun. In the Simmental show, Hailee Bissett of Wake County had Grand with CMB Crusading. Reserve went to Yadkin County resident, Christy Rucker with RFF Red Solo Cow Y7. The All Other Breeds Show as made up of Maintainer, Chi-Maine, Chi-Angus, Limousin and Charolais cattle with the Grand Champion being a Limousin heifer named M&M and exhibited by Wyatt Kendall. Reserve went to Holly Price with her Chi-Maine heifer Gracie.
After judge, Jary Douglas evaluated the cattle, it was time to see how well the young people worked with their cattle in showmanship. All of the 5-8 year old exhibitors won a trophy. When you see how cute these kids were with their calves, there was no way NOT to give them all trophies! In the 9-12 year old division 1st place went to Tyler Berrier of Davidson County. He received a water bucket full of products that he can use while he shows and around the barn as well as a trophy. Second went to Connor Durham and he received a feed scoop full of prizes and a trophy as well. In the 13-15 year old division, 1st went to Marcy Price and 2nd to Cara Smith of Guilford County. In the 16-18 year old division Grand Champion went to Joseph Groce of Davidson County and Reserve to Catherine Harward of Stanly County.
On Sunday, the honor of Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Breeding Ewe, Grand Champion Market Lamb and Grand Champion 9-12 Year Old Showman all went to Abigail Wilson of Rowan County. The Reserve Champion Market Lamb went to Kayla Hampton also of Rowan. All of the 5-8 year old showmen received trophies. The Reserve Champion 9-12 Year Old Showman went to Wyatt Kendall. In the 13-15 Year Old competition 1st went to Simon Liggett and 2nd to Leah Thomas of Yadkin County. In the senior division, first went to Coffman Liggett and second to Gabrielle Adams of Alexander County. In the goat show, the Grand Champion honors went to Claire Annas of Catawba with “Magnolia” and Reserve to Lauren Ingram with “Paisley”. In showmanship our 5-8 year old youth all received trophies and Abigail Wilson again took home the Grand Champion honors in the 9-12 year old division and Kayla Hampton, Reserve. In the 16-18 year old division, Lauren Ingram took home Grand and Brooke Proffitt, Reserve.
