North Central District 4-H Teen Retreat
Ten Forsyth County teens and two adult chaperones took the curvy roads to Sertoma 4-H Center outside of Danbury, NC to attend the North Central District 4-H Teen Retreat in March. The event was kicked off by discussing solutions to the issues that were identified during the 2010 North Carolina County Commissioners annual meeting by 4-H’ers as the top ten issues facing youth today. Afterwards, a business meeting, district officer candidate skits, a bonfire (with smores), dancing and games sessions were held.
The 4-H’ers attended five workshops on topics including etiquette, self-defense, being a 4-H ambassador, to understanding the different economic systems, writing thank you letters to our military, first aid and got to participate in teambuilding activities. They also participated in a community service project to help beautify and clean Sertoma.
Before leaving the teen retreat, the 2011-2012 North Central District 4-H officers were announced. President is Molly Melton, Granville; Vice-President, Nathan Barrick, Forsyth; Secretary-Treasurer, Brandon Hartman, Stokes; Reporter, Rachel Rudd, Caswell.
