On April 14, Telecommunicator Katie Hill was working the primary communication channel when Deputy P. Stringer called in a vehicle chase. Deputy Stringer’s radio temporally stopped transmitting when he entered a neighborhood. Telecommunicator Hill realized the problem and was able to get Deputy Stringer’s location by using the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator) and passed his location to assisting officers. Had this information not been broadcast correctly, Officer Treadwell of the Winston-Salem Police Department would have missed Deputy Stringer’s location.

During this incident Telecommunicator Hill was very calm and clear while transmitting details Deputy Stringer provided. It was later determined that a nearby tower was affecting both city and county communications. Telecommunicator Hill played a valuable role in this incident and was instrumental in maintaining contact to ensure officer safety.
